As the new year commences, the South Jordan Campus continues to focus on serving our community. The College of Dental Medicine is preparing for our annual Give Kids a Smile® event which will be held Friday, February 2 from 9am to 4pm at the Dental Clinic at Roseman University (10894 S River Front Pkwy, South Jordan, UT 84095.) Dental screenings and cleanings will be provided free to children ages 18 and under in an effort to raise awareness about the importance of oral healthcare and to help stop the spread of untreated dental decay. Those who attend the event will also leave with a voucher for free x-rays and $50 of care which may be used at the Dental Clinic at Roseman University for future treatment. The voucher is non-transferable and must be used within 12 months of event. All dental work will be supervised by Roseman University faculty members who are licensed Utah dentists. Student dentists will also provide parents with education and information about proper oral healthcare for their children. Last year the University treated more than 565 children.
We are looking forward to our 4th Annual Research Symposium on March 14th, 2018 during which our students and faculty will showcase the research on which they have been diligently working. We are asking all Roseman students, residents, faculty, preceptors and guests to submit an abstract to be considered for either a poster presentation or podium presentation. You can submit your abstract here. The abstract submission ends January 15. I invite everyone to participate in the Research Symposium not only by submitting an abstract, but also by attending the event in March.
A new year is an opportunity to improve and make changes. The South Jordan Campus is expanding the simulation labs for both the nursing and dental programs. These expansions will enhance the educational experience for all of our students and will also allow the University to handle the increased class size for both the dental and nursing programs.
In addition to simulation expansion, College of Pharmacy has made a wonderful change. We would like to congratulate Dr. Larry Fannin for his new role as dean over both pharmacy programs in Nevada and Utah. Dr. Fannin has served as the South Jordan Campus dean since 2006, and we are proud of his promotion which is well deserved.
We are looking forward to a new year full of new opportunities.
