Neighborhood Health Series: Understanding Drug Addiction in our Families and Community

Drug addiction touches many lives, and deeply impacts families, neighborhoods, communities and the world at large. Drugs of choice change as does the way in which we treat drug addiction. First hear from Dr. Jeffery Talbot, Director of the Roseman University Research Center on Substance Abuse and Depression who will talk about the physiological and emotional drivers of addiction and some of the predictive data that points to who might be more likely to fall prey to drug abuse. Learn about the interconnectedness of depression and drug abuse and find out about how drug therapies are working to advance treatment. Hear from Dr. Krystal Riccio, Associate Professor of Pharmacy Practice, and Advisor for the Drug Abuse Awareness Team about prescription drug abuse, and learn about how the SSLS survey in Nevada is Illuminating new data that may allow us to tailor drug prevention messaging by school, neighborhood and community based on subtleties we in the past could not see.
