The four-year DMD program is located in a newly constructed five-story, 125,000 square-foot building that includes classrooms, a simulation laboratory, patient care facilities as well as faculty, staff and administrative offices. The dental education program was granted “initial accreditation” status* by the Commission on Dental Accreditation in August of 2011. The DMD program accepted its first class later that month. Two DMD classes are currently enrolled with a total of 144 students, and a total student body size of 320 will be achieved by 2016.
The CODM-SJ emphasizes the “Lifelong Colleague Philosophy.” Under this philosophy, students, faculty and staff are expected to make each and every interaction reflect a sincere desire to develop one another as lifelong colleagues during the program, and throughout their professional careers. The CODM-SJ emphasizes ethics & professionalism and has adopted an efficacious honor code. The DMD program reflects the University’s innovative Mastery Learning Model that utilizes block instruction, outcomes-based instruction and active learning to achieve and sustain competencies. The Dean is the chief administrative officer and academic leader of the CODM-SJ. Duties include, but are not limited to:
• Continuing the development and evaluation of the curriculum and supporting programs;
• Recruiting, evaluating, developing and retaining faculty, administrators, staff and students;
• Ensuring that physical, clinical, financial, and human resources strategically support the mission of the University and CODM-SJ’s DMD and related programs;
• Working with internal and external stakeholders and partners to ensure that high quality, interdisciplinary and interprofessional education, clinical training, and scholarship occur;
• Developing and sustaining alumni and fundraising initiatives;
• Leading the accreditation process to achieve and maintain accreditation for the DMD and future programs.

Qualifications. Candidates will possess a DDS, DMD, PhD or equivalent degree and will have academic experience commensurate with an appointment as a Professor of Dental Medicine. Candidates should have a minimum of ten years of academic experience in a school/college of dental medicine or similar health professions educational program including involvement with teaching, scholarly activity, patient care, community services and relationships, fundraising and alumni development. Preference will be given to candidates who have prior administrative experience as a department chair, director or assistant/associate dean or dean. Candidates must demonstrate a history that includes excellent fiscal management, organizational and communication skills as well as collaborative leadership and a dedication to interdisciplinary dental education.
