Roseman University’s National Student Research Group Wins National Chapter Award
Roseman’s National Student Research Group (NSRG) recently was named Outstanding Local Student Research Group (LSRG) by the American Association for Dental Research (AADR) NSRG.
“The AADR NSRG takes pride in recognizing LSRGs for their achievements throughout the year that continue to foster awareness of research in dentistry,” said Minerva Loi, AADR NSRG president.
This award is aimed to recognize one particular student research group (SRG) that has excelled in all categories of a successful SRG. In addition to the title of Outstanding LSRG the group is also awarded a $400 prize.
“NSRG’s accomplishments reflect Roseman’s emphasis on working in collaborative teams,” said William Carroll, Roseman College of Dental Medicine associate dean. “In just two short years, NSRG’s advisors, leadership team and members have taken this group from being a possibility into a group that is actively engaged in research and that sponsors regional research conferences.”
Roseman NSRG has worked hard over the past two years to be recognized for their efforts in research.
“NSRG is focusing on evidence-based research that healthcare providers can ‘put into practice’ to provide outstanding, patient-centered care” said Joseph Cheever, Roseman College of Dental Medicine assistant dean. “This year alone, members of NSRG and College of Dental Medicine faculty will present more than 14 abstracts and table clinics at the American Association of Dental Research, the American Dental Association, American Dental Education Association and other national, regional and state conferences.”
NSRG just completed their two-day Second Annual Research Symposium which was held on January 27 and 28 at Roseman University’s South Jordan campus. The Symposium included two dental continuing education courses open to dentists in the Utah community, an evening Mixer event, and keynote speakers covering new research and clinical practice in dentistry. Keynote speakers included Dr. Paul Casamassimo, professor of pediatric dentistry at The Ohio State University College of Dental Medicine, oral cancer survivor Eric Statler, Monica Monsantofils from Dentsply Sirona, Bernadette Schlaefer from P&G, and Dr. John Fundingsland from 3M. In addition to planning the event the students also secured sponsors including Dentsply Sirona, P&G, 3M, Straumann and Veronica’s Restaurant. Due to the hard work of the students the Symposium had 267 attendees.
Roseman NSRG has been invited to the AADR National Student Research Group Business Meeting during the IADR/AADR/CADR General Session on Thursday, March 23, 2017, to receive their certificate for this award.
“NSRG continues the traditions set by ADEA, ASDA and SPEA who received similar awards at the national level,” said William Harman, Roseman College of Dental Medicine associate dean. “By collaborating as Lifelong Colleagues, our student organizations are making incredible and innovative possibilities into outcomes that set the standard for “Best in Class” performance.”
Roseman’s NSRG Chapter is run by outstanding dental students and faculty. The award would not have been possible without their efforts.

The American Association for Dental Research (AADR) is headquartered in Alexandria, Va., is a non-profit organization with more than 3,700 members in the United States. Its mission is (1) to advance research and increase knowledge for the improvement of oral health; (2) to support and represent the oral health research community; and (3) to facilitate the communication and application of research findings. AADR is the largest Division of the International Association for Dental Research (IADR).
