South Jordan Report – February 2018

February is a time we focus on the heart. Not only is Valentine’s Day (or as some would call it, Singles Awareness Day) celebrated during the month of February, it is also American Heart Month, created to remind Americans to focus on their hearts and to encourage them to get their families, friends and communities involved. May we take time this month to take care of our hearts, the muscle that does more physical work than any other muscle in the human body.Dental Health Month

February is also National Children’s Dental Health Month, dedicated to bringing awareness to the importance of oral health in children. On Friday, February 2, the College of Dental Medicine held its annual American Dental Association  Give Kids a Smile® event at the Dental Clinic at Roseman University. Free dental screenings and cleanings were provided to 645 qualifying children, ages 18 and under, in an effort to raise awareness about the importance of oral healthcare, and help stop the spread of untreated dental decay. Of the children who attended, 76 percent were uninsured, 52 percent had not seen a dentist for more than a year and 70 percent had no dental home. To read more about the event, click here.

Roseman students are dedicated to giving back to their community. In addition to the Give Kids a Smile® event held last week, our pharmacy, nursing and dental students will participate in the Safe Kids Fair held Saturday, February 24 where they will provide health education via games and health screenings. The event is free to the public and will be held at the South Towne Exposition Center in Sandy, Utah from 9am to 5pm.

This month we say goodbye to 44 nursing students who are graduating and entering the workforce. Of the 44 graduates, 18 have completed our Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program and 26 have completed our Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN) program. On behalf of the University, I would like to congratulate these great students and wish them all the best in their future endeavors.

Roseman’s 4th Annual Research Symposium is approaching quickly. The abstract submission has closed and all submissions are under review. Between Utah and Nevada over 100 abstracts were submitted. Thank you to all who took the time to submit their research projects. We look forward to showcasing them, and encourage all to attend.

Sincerely,
