January 17 @ 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm
How are medicines found, how are they priced, and what new drugs are on the horizon?
Presented by Dr. David Rawlins, PhD, Assistant Professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences, College of Pharmacy, Roseman University of Health Sciences
Join Dr. David Rawlins as he talks about the unique perspective he has had inside the world of drug discovery and clinical development at several pharmaceutical companies. Dr. Rawlins will talk about the drug discovery process which includes basic scientific research, identification of lead molecules for drugs, and optimization of the lead. He will also discuss the drug development process which involves large-scale production of the drug and clinical trials to demonstrate effectiveness. Using personal experiences, including the story of a new drug just finishing clinical trials and headed to market next year, he will discuss the time and cost for these processes and how they influence the price of approved medications.
