President’s Report – October 2018

Welcome back to spectRUm,

Fall is officially here, as we observed the Autumnal Equinox on Saturday, September 22. Cooler temperatures, football, preseason hockey and pumpkin adorned houses signal that we are already about a quarter into the school year. Our new students have grown with the new experience of being a Roseman student, and students in the second, third or fourth year of their journey may be feeling seasoned by now, with the growing enthusiasm for the end goal coming into sight—practicing.

While this time of year is full of excitement, it also marks the one year anniversary of the Route 91 Harvest Country Music Festival shooting. We grieve for the lives lost and remember the heroic and epic acts of kindness that were part of that day. We are Vegas Strong and we hope that other communities in America and beyond don’t experience the kind of tragedy that we experienced here. We remember our nursing students, who immediately went to the scene to lend helping hands. There is no doubt that the experience they had reinforced for them the critical need for high-quality healthcare practitioners in our communities.

We look forward to celebrating our students and raising dollars for student scholarships at our annual Golf Tournament at Bear’s Best Las Vegas on October 29. If you’ve not yet registered, please join us for a day of golf or a celebratory dinner. The dinner always remains one of the best events of the year for me personally, as I am touched by the generosity of donors as well as the gratitude expressed by our students.

We are also proud to note that after months of construction, Roseman University’s Henderson Campus will grow again with the addition of a new dental clinic adjacent to the College of Dental Medicine’s Orthodontic Clinic at 4 Sunset Way. Opening on November 6, the clinic will offer general dentistry to complement the affordable, high-quality orthodontic care already being offered, providing patients one location for comprehensive dental care. You’ll be able to read more about the expansion of the clinic in the November print edition of spectRUm. If you would like to receive a copy, please subscribe here. I would also like to congratulate our College of Dental Medicine’s Dental Clinic in South Jordan, for being named one of Utah Business Magazine’s 2018 Healthcare Heroes. Congratulations on this honor!

With open enrollment upon us, please remember Roseman’s Medicare Call Lab, which is there for anyone needing information or help in the process of enrollment. Additionally, the folks staffing the lab will be in person on October 18th, from 5:30-7:00 on the Summerlin Campus at the Neighborhood Health Series. Please register at roseman.speakers.edu.

As you may recall, Roseman has embarked on a partnership with pediatric oncology not-for-profit, Cure 4 the Kids. They have moved into the Breakthrough building and are seeing patients. On most days, the lobby is now full of young cancer patients and their families receiving treatment. It is truly moving to see what Cure 4 the Kids is doing to provide hope, support and expert medical care to their patients.

With that, I wish everyone in Nevada, Utah and beyond a healthy and happy October.

Warmly,

Renee Coffman, BS Pharm, PhD
President
