HENDERSON, Nev. – June 12, 2019 – Roseman University of Health Sciences Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program has been granted an initial, five-year accreditation by the Commission of Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). The Henderson campus has been accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), formerly the National League of Nursing Accreditation Commission (NLNAC), since 2008. The South Jordan campus has been similarly accredited since 2011.
“The decision to switch from ACEN to CCNE accreditation is because as a College we felt that CCNE was more aligned with our strategic goal to offer graduate nursing educating at the Masters and Doctoral level,” said Dr. Brian Oxhorn, Roseman University College of Nursing Dean. “This initial accreditation by CCNE is truly a testament to the quality of nursing education and dedicated professionalism displayed by all of us in the College of Nursing as well as the support and collaboration provided by all in the Roseman University administration, supporting units and interprofessional Colleges.”
Officially recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education as a national accreditation agency, the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) is an autonomous accrediting agency, contributing to the improvement of the public’s health. CCNE ensures the quality and integrity of baccalaureate, graduate, and residency programs in nursing. CCNE serves the public interest by assessing and identifying programs that engage in effective educational practices. As a voluntary, self-regulatory process, CCNE accreditation supports and encourages continuing self-assessment by nursing programs and supports continuing growth and improvement of collegiate professional education and nurse residency programs.
The College of Nursing completed its accreditation on-site visit in November 2018. The CCNE team report stated that Roseman University met all four (4) standards for accreditation with no compliance concerns in any of the 28 key element areas. The next steps included a finalized report, along with a written response provided by the Dean, to be reviewed by the CCNE Accreditation Review Committee in March 2019. The committee then made a confidential recommendation to the CCNE Board of Commissioners with a final decision in May 2019 which determined that Roseman University would be granted initial 5-year accreditation by the CCNE.
“The initial outcome spoke to the dedication and hard work on the part of all who were involved in any way with the College. Without the outstanding contributions and collaborations from faculty, staff, students and community partners, we could not have accomplished this critical phase of our accreditation journey,” stated Oxhorn. “I personally want to thank each and every person who helped Roseman College of Nursing achieve their goal.”
