Hero Scholar: Sofia Butayev
When a child in her care falls ill, Sofia Butayev doesn’t hesitate. Whether spending a sleepless night isolating and comforting sick campers, bandaging the scrapes of injured kids as a camp first aid “nurse,” or dedicating fifteen years to tutoring struggling readers and visiting local nursing homes, her lifelong commitment to service has shaped her into a natural caregiver.
Her passion for healing carried into her professional life. Sofia earned her Phlebotomy 1 License and BLS Certification while building hands-on clinical experience as a sterilizing technician and receptionist at a busy dental office, and most recently as a Medical Assistant at Sacramento Foot and Ankle, where she supports patient care, vital signs collection, wound care, and EHR documentation.
Now pursuing an Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Roseman University’s South Jordan campus, Sofia brings a heart shaped by service and a steady, patient-first approach to every person she cares for. The Hero Scholarship, funded by Carrara Nevada, will support her mission to become a nurse who leads with the same compassion, patience, and quiet courage she has shown her community for over a decade.
