Hero Scholar: Dallin C. Shaffer
Dallin Shaffer's commitment to service began at age eight in Cub Scouts and carried through a decade in Scouting, culminating in an Eagle Scout project that built a public horseshoe pit still used by his community today. That foundation led him to a self-funded, two-year full-time service mission in Johannesburg, South Africa, and Cincinnati, Ohio, where he trained and led over 150 volunteers from diverse global backgrounds.
His path to medicine has been paved with hands-on experience. Dallin worked as an EMT with DispatchHealth, providing urgent home-based care that taught him how deeply a patient’s environment shapes their health, and later piloted “BYUMove,” a personal training internship he built from the ground up to design exercise plans for fellow students. He has continued to serve through volunteering at free clinics and his church, and currently works as a Medicare insurance agent, gaining an inside look at how insurance and healthcare intersect.
Now pursuing a Doctor of Medicine at Roseman University’s Summerlin campus, Dallin brings a rare combination of clinical exposure, global leadership, and steady, service-driven character to his medical training. The Hero Scholarship, funded by Create Credit Union, will support his mission to become a physician who leads multidisciplinary teams with the same integrity, consistency, and dedication to others he has shown throughout his life.
