Hero Scholar: Casandra “Cas” Hebert, BSN, RN, CCRN
When a fellow climber loses his footing, Casandra Hebert is the steady hand on the rope. For the past three and a half years, she has volunteered weekly with UpEnding Parkinson's, safely belaying and coaching rock climbers with Parkinson's disease, a cause made personal after a client she once cared for with the disease suddenly passed away early in her healthcare career. A Climbers of Color Scholar herself, Cas is passionate about paying that opportunity forward.
Her dedication to excellence carried into her nursing career at Good Samaritan Hospital’s Medical/Surgical ICU, where she pioneered a central line-associated bloodstream infection (CLABSI) prevention task force and led the hospital-acquired pressure injury (HAPI) prevention council to a 30% reduction in injuries. A Daisy Award winner recognized for her heartfelt communication during a high-stakes emergency intubation, Cas has built a career mentoring new nurses and leading evidence-based change from the bedside to hospital leadership.
Originally from Port Orchard, Washington, Cas is now pursuing a Doctor of Nursing Practice in Nurse Anesthesia at Roseman University’s Henderson campus. The Hero Scholarship, funded by Create Credit Union, will support her mission to become a CRNA who leads with the same courage, compassion, and steady hand she has shown every patient and every climber who has trusted her with their safety.
