Hero Scholar: Christine Beckett
Growing up in rural Nevada as the child of a deaf parent and witnessing the impact of addiction within her own family, Christine Beckett learned early how limited access to healthcare and basic needs can shape a family's life. That understanding has driven her to contribute over 387 hours to community organizations, mentoring formerly incarcerated women through Hope for Prisoners, supporting underserved youth through Communities in Schools, and volunteering in Southern Hills Hospital's postpartum unit.
Her clinical and research experience is extensive. Christine most recently worked as a Medical Assistant at Thomas Dermatology, scribed for underprivileged, uninsured patients through Volunteers in Medicine of Southern Nevada, and independently led participant sessions for a musical perception study at UNLV’s Auditory Cognitive Neuroscience Laboratory, presenting her findings at the Western Psychological Association conference. As Recruitment Officer and later Sergeant-at-Arms for the American Medical Student Association, she led outreach efforts and helped foster an organization built on inclusivity and support.
Now pursuing a Doctor of Medicine at Roseman University’s Summerlin campus, Christine brings a rare combination of clinical exposure, research rigor, and a deeply personal understanding of the barriers her future patients face. The Hero Scholarship, funded by Fong Construction Las Vegas, will support her mission to become a physician who ensures a person’s circumstances or zip code never determine their access to care.
