Hero Scholar: Eryn Dotta
Eryn Dota of Las Vegas, Nevada, is currently enrolled in Roseman University's Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing program at the South Jordan campus, with the support of a Nursing Hero Scholarship made possible by Porter Group. Her passion for community service and her drive to excel in leadership roles have shaped her into a compassionate and dedicated nursing professional.
Eryn’s volunteer work at the Columbus Center City of South Salt Lake has been a transformative experience, both for her and the senior citizens she supported. Over 16 weeks, Eryn helped seniors engage in fitness activities tailored to their individual strengths, promoting health and wellness in a fun, inclusive environment. By introducing therapeutic stretching, theraband exercises, and upper and lower body pedal bikes, Eryn not only improved their physical well-being but also created a sense of unity and friendship among the group. The impact of her work was evident when some participants even adopted the exercise routines at home, bringing new confidence and joy into their lives.
In her leadership journey, Eryn reflects on her time working in a hospital during the COVID-19 pandemic, where patient advocacy became her top priority. Faced with language barriers in the Wound and Lymphedema clinic, Eryn learned basic phrases in Spanish, Russian, Kurundi, and American Sign Language (ASL) to communicate effectively and build trust with patients from diverse backgrounds. Her dedication to patient care extended to teaching her team these essential communication skills, ensuring that everyone could provide a welcoming and supportive environment.
Eryn’s commitment to service and leadership continues to inspire those around her, as she strives to make a lasting impact in the healthcare field.
