Hero Scholar: Krystal Manuel

As a first-generation Filipino American raised in a single-mother household, Krystal Manuel learned early the value of sacrifice and showing up for others. That foundation has carried her through over 200 volunteer hours at Opportunity Village and the Goodie Two-Shoes Foundation, where she once connected with a shy young Filipino student by speaking Tagalog, watching her transform into someone confident and expressive.

Her professional foundation is equally strong. Krystal worked as a Pharmacy Technician at CVS Pharmacy, preparing and dispensing prescriptions while supporting patients through insurance and confidentiality concerns. Previously, she served in leadership as a Shift Leader managing teams of 20+ employees at Somi Somi and Sunright Tea Studio. As a cohort leader in UNLV’s Engelstad Scholars Program, she contributed over 100 volunteer hours annually addressing social and health disparities across Las Vegas.

Now pursuing a Doctor of Pharmacy at Roseman University’s Henderson campus, Krystal brings a rare combination of cultural insight, hands-on pharmacy experience, and a proven ability to lead with empathy. The Hero Scholarship, funded by Sletten Construction, will support her mission to become a pharmacist who advocates for underserved communities and ensures every patient feels respected and supported in their care.
