Hero Scholar: Nicole Castro

Nicole Castro’s path to nursing began in childhood, tagging along on late-night calls with her father as he repaired broken-down MRI machines, inspired by his simple mantra that he was going “to save lives.” That spark carried her into healthcare as a Certified Nursing Assistant at Presbyterian Intercommunity Hospital, where she transformed a role connecting elderly patients to their patient portals, growing her caseload from a handful of patients to as many as 40 a day.

Her commitment to service extends deeply into her community. For the past decade, Nicole has volunteered in the Clark County School District classrooms of her four sons, stepping in wherever teachers need support, from class projects to helping students master sight words. Living in the rural community of Boulder City, she has seen firsthand how parent involvement helps fill the gaps in under-resourced schools, and she has approached motherhood itself with the discipline and structure of a “home engineer,” building the problem-solving and leadership skills she now plans to bring to a healthcare team.

Now pursuing an Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Roseman University’s Henderson campus, Nicole brings resilience, resourcefulness, and a deep well of compassion earned through years of caring for both patients and family. The Hero Scholarship, funded by Create Credit Union, will support her mission to become a nurse who provides not just care, but a lasting impact on the lives of others.
