Hero Scholar: Anthony Moses Reyes

Anthony Moses Reyes embodies the Hawaiian principle of malama ʻāina—caring for the land that sustains us. This philosophy, learned in elementary school and deepened through five years of volunteer work at Papahana Kuaola, has shaped his approach to service and led him to become a 2025 Hero Scholar at Roseman University's College of Pharmacy.

Growing up in Waipahu, Hawaii, Anthony discovered his passion for community service through ecological restoration work. At Papahana Kuaola, he spent countless hours pulling invasive weeds, planting native species, and maintaining lo’i kalo (taro patches). The physically demanding but deeply rewarding work taught him patience, dependability, and the joy of contributing to something greater than himself. As he guided younger volunteers and worked alongside community members, Anthony developed the leadership skills that would define his character.

His dedication to service extended into his professional life as a certified pharmacy technician with over four years of experience at CVS Health and Walmart. Supporting 800+ patients weekly while maintaining a 99% prescription accuracy rate, Anthony has demonstrated his commitment to culturally sensitive care for Hawaii’s diverse population, including tourists and local residents alike.

Through strategic planning and hard work, Anthony graduated debt-free by participating in Early College programs and AmeriCorps service while pursuing his education at Leeward Community College and the University of Arizona. Now at Roseman University’s Henderson campus, Anthony brings the same spirit of malama—caring for people with the same devotion he showed the land. The Hero Scholarship, funded by REQ, supports his mission to become a pharmacist who serves with empathy, accuracy, and cultural understanding.
