At just 17, Alex joined the Army National Guard, where he served six years as a Military Police specialist, including a deployment to Kabul, Afghanistan. His military experience, particularly leading a team of four soldiers, taught him invaluable lessons about effective communication, inclusivity, and teamwork—skills that would prove essential in his healthcare career.

As a first-generation Latino college graduate, Alex earned his Bachelor of Science in Nursing from UNLV while actively volunteering with organizations like Project 150, packing lunches for underprivileged children and helping teenagers access formal wear for school dances. This volunteer work instilled in him a deep appreciation for community service and solidified his desire to pursue healthcare.

Alex began his nursing career during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, flourishing in the Medical ICU at Sunrise Hospital before moving to the Post Anesthesia Care Unit at Centennial Hills Hospital. Now, as an experienced nurse who has precepted nursing students for two years, Alex understands the importance of thorough mentorship and education.

Fluent in Spanish and committed to serving his diverse Las Vegas community, Alex brings both clinical expertise and cultural understanding to his studies in the College of Pharmacy. The Hero Scholarship, funded by Cure 4 The Kids Foundation & Christine Tonn, will support his mission to continue his lifelong dedication to improving community wellness.
