Hero Scholar: Jeffrey Capili
When crisis strikes, Jeffrey Capili steps forward. Whether responding to California wildfires, leading COVID-19 protocols, or training new emergency room staff, his eight-year commitment to emergency medicine has shaped him into a natural leader and compassionate caregiver, earning him recognition as a 2025 Hero Scholar.

Jeffrey’s journey began at age 19 when he earned his EMT-B certification, launching a career dedicated to serving others in their most vulnerable moments. His bilingual abilities and diverse emergency medicine experience, from ambulance work to special event medical coverage at F1 races, have prepared him to serve Las Vegas’s multicultural community with cultural sensitivity and clinical expertise.
During the 2017 California wildfires, Jeffrey volunteered with FEMA to evacuate stranded civilians, experiencing firsthand the privilege and responsibility of acting during crisis. As Lead ER Tech at Elite Medical Center, Jeffrey exemplified leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic, working up to 96 hours per week while collaborating with hospital leadership to optimize safety protocols.
His dedication to continuous learning led him to earn an associate’s degree in Biological Science with High Honors from CSN. Jeffrey’s research work with UMC’s Emergency Medicine residents earned him the “Collaborator of the Year” award, contributing to studies on cardiac arrest outcomes and AED accessibility.
Now pursuing nursing at Roseman University’s Henderson campus, Jeffrey brings proven crisis leadership and an unwavering commitment to patient care. The Hero Scholarship, funded by Carrera Nevada, will support his mission to become a nurse who leads by example with resilience, empathy, and determination.
