Hero Scholar: Matthew Boudreaux

Matthew Boudreaux discovered that true leadership isn't about having all the answers—it's about asking the right questions and building the right teams. This philosophy, forged through his work as an EMT in Las Vegas, has made him a 2025 Hero Scholar.

With a bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences from UNLV earned with Dean’s Honor List recognition, Matthew brings both scientific rigor and hands-on experience to his nursing studies. His academic journey began with an International Baccalaureate diploma and continued through advanced coursework in genetics, biochemistry, and microbiology, providing him with a deep understanding of human biology that enhances his patient care.

For over a year, Matthew volunteered 10-15 hours weekly in a fruit fly research lab at UNLV, where he supported professors and trained fellow students in advanced lab techniques and research analysis. His mentorship helped prepare students for careers in healthcare and biology, instilling in him a passion for sharing knowledge with others who share his commitment to science.

Matthew’s compassionate nature extends beyond formal settings. He independently assists elderly and disabled neighbors with errands and companionship, providing relief from stress and fostering hopeful attitudes. These relationships have given him practical wisdom and reinforced his belief in paying forward goodwill to others.

As a certified EMT with American Medical Response, Matthew emphasizes communication and teamwork, asking partners “how we will run the truck” before each shift and coordinating with other agencies on scene. Now pursuing nursing at Roseman University’s Henderson campus, Matthew brings this collaborative spirit and scientific foundation to his studies. The Hero Scholarship, funded by Roseman University Trustee Hugh Anderson, will support his mission to provide compassionate, evidence-based nursing care built on strong teamwork and accountability.
