Registered Dental Hygienist Joins College of Dental Medicine
In this staff spotlight, we highlight registered dental hygienist, Teesha Davis, her work, and her choice to come to Roseman University.
Starting in April 2024, Teesha Davis is Roseman University’s newest registered dental hygienist. In her role, Teesha is involved in every aspect of her patient’s care.
“As a dental hygienist,” she explained, “I’m able to review medical histories, do screenings on patients, take dental x-rays, perform preventative and therapeutic dental hygiene treatment, educate patients on their dental hygiene and home care, document the care that has been performed, administer local anesthesia, apply preventive care to the teeth, and answer questions that patients might have about their teeth.”
In her work at the College of Dental Medicine, she has taken on additional teaching responsibilities. “Here at Roseman University,” Teesha explained. “I am able to perform ‘soft tissue checks’ on the patients, comparing my evaluations with the students’ to ensure the correct diagnosis of the periodontium and treatment recommendations. I also check the cleanings completed by the students and educate on how to clean certain areas of the teeth that might get missed.”
When asked why she chose to work at Roseman, Teesha said, “Helping the students with their clinical dental hygiene skills and giving advice or making recommendations [from what] I’ve learned throughout the years is what appealed to me. I’m looking forward to getting to know the students more and help support the students however I can with their dental school experience!”
One of Teesha’s favorite parts of her role is watching the students grow as dental professionals. “The most rewarding part of the job,” she shared, “is watching the students become more confident in their dental knowledge and skills as they are advancing with their education.”
While attending college, Teesha took a job as a dental assistant. Her experiences in that role led her to pursue further education in dentistry. “I graduated from Weber State University in 2016 with my Bachelors of Science [degree] in Dental Hygiene,” she said.
Since then, Teesha has worked as a dental hygienist. “I’ve been working in general dentistry private practices for the past 8 years,” she added, “working both single hygiene and double hygiene with a dental hygiene assistant.”
In her free time, Teesha enjoys dancing, working out, and spending time with her two young children. She is also a pilot, attending flight school with the goal of receiving her commercial pilot’s license.
“I love flying airplanes!” she exclaimed. “A personal achievement I’m very proud of was the moment I flew an airplane solo for the first time! My kids and parents were there to watch me and support me as my flight instructor got out of the plane and I flew an airplane by myself at the Brigham City Airport.”
