Roseman University Announces Free Neighborhood Health Series Fall Schedule

Roseman University has unveiled the fall schedule of its free Neighborhood Health Series, events that bring the community together to learn, share and collaborate with physicians, researchers and other healthcare practitioners on issues related to health and well-being.

The fall series kicks off at 5:30 pm on Thursday, September 15 at Roseman University’s Summerlin Campus, located at One Breakthrough Way, Las Vegas, with “Demystifying Cancer, A Disease that has Affected Us All,” sponsored by Clark County Credit Union.

Presented by Sanford Barsky, MD, director of the Comprehensive Community Cancer Center and professor and chair, Department of Pathology at Roseman University’s College of Medicine, this engaging presentation will help the community understand that while our country has been waging a war on Cancer since 1972, for the majority of adult cancers, progress has been relatively slow.

“The community will learn why cancer has proven so difficult to treat, prevent and detect in its early stages,” said Barsky. “The presentation will also offer more about the challenges in translating basic science advances in our understanding of this disease to improved therapies. Our goal is to give the community a better understanding of the disease that has profoundly touched so many of our lives.”

The event is free and open to the public, however registration is recommended at speakers.roseman.edu or by calling 702-802-2872.

Each month features an expert speaker from Roseman University on a variety of health care topics including navigating Medicare, dealing with common diseases, and coping with an aging parent. Guests will also experience elements of Roseman’s six-point Mastery Learning Model and will be invited to get to know other attendees, all while learning alongside members of southern Nevada’s most accomplished and talented medical community.
