2nd Annual National Student Research Group (NSRG) Regional Research Symposium

January 4, 2017

Roseman University’s South Jordan campus is holding its 2nd Annual NSRG Regional Research Symposium on Jan. 27 through Jan. 28.

“This year abstract submissions are open to all dental, medical, pharmacy, post-doctorate, PhD and masters level students conducting clinical and/or scientific research,” said Dr. Shalene Wilcox, NSRG faculty advisor.

NSRG is a student organization affiliated with the American Association for Dental Research (AADR). NSRG aims to promote student involvement in dental research and focus on implementing evidence-based dentistry within the clinic as well as the classroom. NSRG provides support for students who are interested in research and connect them to faculty members who are doing research. They offer a forum for fellow students to connect and communicate research ideas. Moreover, NSRG strives to promote the inter-disciplinary advancement of research between professional programs on campus including dental, pharmacy and nursing.

The Research Symposium will consist of presentations by nationally acclaimed research speakers including Dr. Paul Casamassimo, DDS, MS and Jon Fundingsland, Professional Service Manager at 3M Oral Care. Dentists, dental students and pre-dental students will then have the option to choose among various workshops. On Friday evening, a Networking Reception Night will be hosted by American Student Dental Association (ASDA) Roseman Chapter, followed by a banquet for all the speakers, faculties, residency program directors and attendees. The reception will serve as a great opportunity for networking and mentorship.

“A poster symposium, which will be held on Saturday, is a great opportunity for students to present their research projects and gain valuable feedback from the audience,” said Wilcox.

In addition to the poster symposium, presentation and workshops will continue on Saturday and the winner of the poster symposium will be announced during the award ceremony.

In conjunction with the Research Symposium, dental continuing education courses will also be offered both days of the event. On Friday evening Roseman will have guest presenter Dr. Paul Casamassimo, professor of pediatric dentistry at The Ohio State University College of Dental Medicine.

“We are honored to have Dr. Casamassimo, a nationally known pediatric dentist, presenting at our event,” said Dr. Frank Licari, College of Dental Medicine Dean – South Jordan campus.

Casamassimo will be lecturing on “The Current State and Future of Dentistry for Children.” On Saturday Roseman dental faculty, Drs. Benjamin Wall and David Howard, will be lecturing on “Bioclear: Out-of-the-Box Composite Restoration Concepts.”
