Heart of Roseman: Caroline Base, DNPNA Class of 2027

What I love most about Roseman is the faculty. They are not only experts but also inspiring educators who are passionate about teaching their subject and about guiding students toward success.

I was born in Brazil and came to the United States with my family when I was six years old. Growing up in Southern California, I watched my parents work tirelessly—my dad often dnpna student folding armsworking multiple jobs and my mom cleaning houses and babysitting. They taught me the value of discipline, determination, and perseverance. My dad’s mantra, “Never give up,” has guided me throughout my life and career.

My passion for becoming a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) began when my mom needed shoulder surgery. While the surgeon repaired her shoulder, it was the CRNA who managed her every breath and heartbeat, calmed her anxiety, managed her pain, and ensured her safety. I realized the responsibility is great, but the reward is greater. There is nothing as fulfilling as helping someone face one of the most terrifying chapters of their life.

The non-competitive, mastery-based approach creates a supportive environment where students help one another succeed. That sense of teamwork carries into the operating room, where collaboration leads to better outcomes for everyone. My favorite facet of the model is the Block Curriculum—it allows the focus to be heavily drawn to one subject at a time. We don’t tiptoe into the water; we dive in headfirst, deep into the bottom of the sea.

What I love most about Roseman is the faculty. They are not only experts but also inspiring educators who are passionate about teaching their subject and about guiding students toward success. After graduation, I plan to gain clinical experience, contribute to anesthesia research, and eventually teach the next generation of CRNAs.
