Heart of Roseman: Garrett Smith, DNPNA Class of 2027

At Roseman University, the Six-Point Mastery Learning Model® has reshaped how I learn.

I’m a proud Las Vegas local whose path to nurse anesthesia began as a pharmacy technician at Sunrise Hospital — the same hospital where I now rotate as a student registered dnpna student playing guitarnurse anesthetist. That early exposure gave me a foundational love for pharmacology and clinical precision. Later, as an ICU nurse, I found purpose in helping patients through their most critical moments. Outside of school, I stay creative by playing music, traveling, and exploring local coffee shops.

My decision to become a CRNA began with curiosity. While delivering medications to the OR, I noticed someone with “CRNA” on their badge. Researching the role, I discovered a profession that combined everything I loved: caring for patients during their most vulnerable moments, applying meticulous attention to detail, and utilizing a deep understanding of pharmacology to guide critical decisions – a beautiful blend of science and art. From that moment on, the path was clear. Becoming a CRNA was the ideal intersection of my background, interests, and passion for excellence in patient care.

The Block Curriculum allows me to focus deeply on one subject at a time, building true mastery and confidence in clinical application. For me, it’s the perfect environment to build both knowledge and critical thinking skills with purpose.

After graduation, I aim to be a confident, safe, and adaptable CRNA, dedicated to delivering exceptional patient care, mentoring future students, and advancing the nurse anesthesia profession.
