Henderson Report – October 2020

October 7, 2020

October is a busy time on Roseman’s Henderson campus. Students who started in the fall are busy gaining new knowledge and skills as they progress towards their goals of becoming pharmacists, nurses, and dental professionals. Their determination is always inspiring.

While many students are several weeks into the new academic year, just last week we welcomed a new cohort of 39 nursing students who began our hybrid online BSN program. As always, they were enthusiastic and anxious to get started on the first day of orientation, and I’m quite confident they’ve hit the ground running – much like our Roadrunner mascot – as they adapt to learning in Roseman’s Six-Point Mastery Learning Model®. I welcome each and every one of them to the Roseman family.

Due to limitations on gatherings, our White Coat Ceremony scheduled in August for our first year (P1) pharmacy students was postponed. Thanks to the hard work of College of Pharmacy administration and faculty, we’re pleased to be able to offer a virtual White Coat Ceremony to mark the special occasion. The event will be held on Tuesday, October 13. I’m looking forward to celebrating with our outstanding students, their families, and our College of Pharmacy faculty and staff.

Many of our student organizations are navigating the COVID-19 pandemic and continuing to serve our communities. The specially trained volunteer student pharmacists from Roseman University’s chapter of the American Society of Consultant Pharmacists (ASCP) is preparing for a busy few weeks. With Medicare open enrollment beginning on October 15, their Medicare Call Lab is ready to answer calls from Medicare beneficiaries and provide unbiased information to help them make informed decisions about their Medicare enrollment and coverage options. A partnership between Roseman’s ASCP and Nevada’s State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP), the goal of the lab is to help beneficiaries enroll in the most-cost effective plan to meet their individual needs. For more information about the Medicare Call Lab or to have your plan evaluated free of charge, call 702-968-6615.

If you’re new to Medicare and want to learn more about the program, I invite you to join Roseman University for our Virtual Neighborhood Health Series, “The ABC’s of Medicare: Help with Open Enrollment,” on October 15 from 5:30 to 7 pm PDT. Presented by Dr. Leiana Oswald, ASCP faculty advisory, along with volunteer student pharmacists. More information and registration can be found at speakers.roseman.edu.

As always, I wish you well.
