Thank you for taking the time to learn more about Roseman University in this first issue of spectRUm. Each month, I look forward to sharing the exciting things happening at the university’s newest campus in Summerlin.
The Roseman University Summerlin campus was born in 2013 through the acquisition of the 184,000 square-foot Engelstad Research Building. In 2015, it was expanded through the purchase of the adjacent 143,000 square-foot Breakthrough Building and additional vacant land. The campus serves as home to the College of Medicine and its research enterprises, as well as Offices of Advancement and Marketing. In just a few years, after the College of Medicine achieves accreditation, it will become a vibrant campus hosting aspiring medical students from throughout Nevada and across the country and faculty and staff who are committed to training a new generation of doctors to serve our communities.
While the College of Medicine continues to pursue accreditation, the current administration, faculty and staff at the Summerlin campus have been working to connect the campus with the local Summerlin community, fostering relationships with future partners, raising awareness of the university and its positive impact on healthcare in Southern Nevada, and giving back to our community through outreach and volunteerism.
In the last year, frequent Community Town Hall meetings have helped our community learn about the College of Medicine and how individuals can help in its development. We appreciate the partnership with Greenspun Media Group Publisher Gordon Prouty to help make these events successful.
Opening up our facilities to local non-profits for community events have also allowed the public to see the campus. Through events presented by organizations like the American Cancer Society, Las Vegas HEALS, the Desert Companion Best Docs/Top Dentists issue party, Las Vegas Metro Chamber Mixer, hundreds of community members and healthcare leaders have had the opportunity to experience the hospitality of the Summerlin campus.
Our campus is also host to Roseman University’s Neighborhood Health Series, monthly events that feature an expert speaker from Roseman University on a variety of healthcare topics such navigating Medicare, dealing with common diseases, and coping with an aging parent. Guests have the opportunity to experience elements of Roseman’s Six Point Mastery Learning Model and are invited to get to know other attendees, all while learning alongside members of Southern Nevada’s most accomplished and talented medical community.
As we embark on a new year, the Summerlin campus will continue to grow and connect with our community. This year, we have been selected by the Howard Hughes Corporation as its partner for the 7th Annual Summerlin Half Marathon. As planning continues for that event, I look forward to sharing how you can be a part of it. Likewise, we will continue to hold events and invite the public to learn more about Roseman University and how they can become part of the growing Roseman University community.
