Student Health Insurance

roseman nursing students

Roseman University of Health Sciences’ students are required to obtain adequate health insurance coverage while they are enrolled in their program, except students in the following categories:

COLLEGE OF NURSING PROGRAM

  • Students enrolled in the College of Nursing who have successfully completed their clinical component of the program, who only need to satisfy didactic (i.e., on-line and/or classroom instruction only) requirements to graduate.

COLLEGE OF PHARMACY PROGRAM

  • Students enrolled in the College of Pharmacy who only need to satisfy didactic (i.e., classroom instruction only) requirements to progress to the next academic year or to graduate.

COLLEGE OF DENTAL MEDICINE PROGRAM

  • Students enrolled in the College of Dental Medicine who only need to satisfy didactic (i.e., classroom instruction only) requirements to progress to the next academic year or to graduate.

COLLEGE OF GRADUATE STUDIES

  • Students who are only enrolled in College of Graduate Studies programs and who are not enrolled in any other Roseman University program.

Any student that does not fall into one of the categories listed above must have continuous adequate health insurance coverage that meets Roseman’s minimum health insurance requirements from the date of enrollment through graduation, regardless of whether the student’s academic schedules include classroom instruction or participation in clinical rotations.

Students who are required to have health insurance coverage must meet the minimum program requirements of the student health insurance plan selected by the University. The minimum requirements can be found below in the Waiving section. Additional information on the process to request to use a student’s personal insurance coverage rather than purchasing the student health insurance plan selected by the University (i.e., waiver) can also be found in that section. Waivers are required every year regardless if one is already on file from the previous year. Students who do not meet the required deadlines, will be billed and responsible for the full cost of the health insurance premium.  The University does not provide student health insurance coverage. Rather, the university works with a third-party broker.

Student Health Insurance Disclaimer

It is a student’s responsibility to comply with the Roseman University student health insurance policies and to know the beginning and end dates of her/his health insurance coverage.  If your health insurance policy has expired and you are not required to maintain health insurance while you are enrolled in the University, Roseman recommends that you obtain health insurance coverage that meets your needs.

Students needing a Form 1095C for tax purposes must send their request to our broker at 1-800-537-1777 or educlientservices@ahpcare.com.

Cancelling the Student Health Insurance Plan

Students are free to cancel the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) at any time. However, unless you meet the criteria listed above, you are required to have coverage while you are attending Roseman and be continuously enrolled in a plan that meets the minimum requirements, which can be found below in the Waiving section. Before we can cancel the SHIP you will have to submit proof of adequate coverage to our broker so they can verify your policy is in compliance. If you have been enrolled in the plan for more than 31 days, or if claims have been paid by United HealthCare, you may still cancel the plan but no refund can be issued.

Medicaid

Students applying for Nevada or Utah state Medicaid should know that it can take approximately 1-3 months for a decision to be made regarding eligibility (if you are starting an initial application). That said, any student interested in this option should plan accordingly, as your adjudication will need to be completed by the student insurance waiver deadline you have been given, so any out-standing adjudication from Medicaid after that date will not be approved for the student health insurance waiver. If no insurance is in place by that date, you will be auto-enrolled in the student health insurance plan, and you will be responsible for the annual premium (this cost will be reflected on your student statement).

HealthCare.gov

The HealthCare.gov marketplace now offers a one-stop shop for Americans in need of purchasing health insurance to meet the federal mandate that every person either purchase insurance coverage,  qualify due to employment (either being the insured or being a spouse/dependent of the insured), or be exempt.
