Roseman University Symposium Gives Public Opportunity To Learn About Local Scientific Research

HENDERSON, Nev. – November 25, 2014 – Roseman University of Health Sciences will hold its first Research Symposium from 5 to 7:30 p.m. on Monday, December 1 at its campus located at 11 Sunset Way in Henderson. Open to the public, the event will showcase research projects by students, residents, post-docs and faculty from Roseman’s Colleges of Pharmacy, Medicine, Dental Medicine and Nursing. The symposium will also feature projects from Touro University Nevada.

Forty research projects will be presented in poster and podium formats, covering basic sciences in areas of psychiatric, cancer, immunology, microbiology and education research, as well as clinical sciences in areas of ambulatory care, nephrology, epidemiology, dental, and public health and surveillance research.

“This is an opportunity for the Las Vegas community to see not only the amount of research happening in our community, but also the variety of projects covering some of the most common medical and educational issues affecting people in our region and around the world,” said Dr. Jeffery Talbot, assistant dean for research and faculty development and associate professor pharmaceutical sciences for Roseman’s College of Pharmacy.

Podium presentations will include an epidemiological study to evaluate the rates of Clostridium difficile infections in Southern Nevada hospitals and the use of the highly advanced Coherent Anti-Stokes Raman Scattering Microscopy for the visualization of lipids in living biological systems, which is critical for the understanding of their roles in debilitating diseases such as diseases, atherosclerosis, and neurodegenerative diseases.

Poster presentations include detecting and targeting circulating tumor cells for cancer diagnosis and therapy, and a descriptive report of medical conditions and medications prescribed during a Roseman College of Pharmacy faculty and student four-day medical mission in Guatemala.

Podium presentations will begin at 5 p.m. followed by poster exhibits and refreshments beginning at 6:15 p.m.

While the event is free and open to the public, individuals planning to attend are encouraged to RSVP by emailing ResearchDayHD@roseman.edu.
